About the Muungano Cooperative<\/h2>\n\n

Muungano<\/strong> means \u201cunity\u201d<\/em> in Swahili, reflecting the cooperative\u2019s spirit of togetherness and the power of collaboration.<\/p>\n\n

The Democratic Republic of Congo was once one of the world\u2019s largest coffee producers, but decades of conflict, corruption, and poverty severely affected the industry. Production dropped by around 90%<\/strong>, and many farmers were forced to risk dangerous journeys across the border to Rwanda in order to sell their coffee at a fairer price. <\/p>\n\n

Today, the Muungano Cooperative <\/strong>is a key player in the recovery of the coffee industry, bringing together more than 4,300 farmers<\/strong>. It helps improve coffee quality, ensures safer access to markets, and guarantees fairer payment for the work done. <\/p>\n\n
